Akpabio not gunning for 2019 presidency - Aide

– Ex-governor’s aide says the rumour was
peddled by mischief makers

– Adds that the PDP has zoned the next
presidential candidate to the north

– Notes further that his boss cannot be
distracted by such campaign posters

Chief Godswill AKpabio, the Senate minority
leader has rubbished reports in the media
linking him to a 2019 presidential ambition.

This reaction follows from series of posters
of him campaigning for the 2019 presidency,
purportedly pasted in strategic places.

But the media aide to the ex-governor of
Akwa Ibom state, Anietie Ekong, denied the
reports, stating that
Nigerians should disregard any of such
publications.

While stressing that the posters were placed
by mischief makers who wanted to create
wrong impression in some quarters, the
governor’s spokesperson reiterated
that Akpabio has no ambition of contesting
for the presidency in 2019.

According to news men, he said: “It is
instructive that the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP), which he (Akpabio) belongs to, has
zoned the presidency to the North by 2019.

“The South-South has had its shot at the
presidency through Dr Goodluck Jonathan,
who handed over to President Muhammadu
Buhari barely one year ago. And it is politically
impracticable in the present Nigeria to expect
another South- South man to aspire to
succeed President Buhari.”

“He should not be distracted by a phantom
campaign as such ambition only exist in the
imagination of the mischief-makers.”

Meanwhile, Akpabio was recently mobbed in
Akwa Ibom when he went to do his Bank
Verification Number (BVN) registration at
the b ank.

The happy indigenes of the state reportedly
mobbed him because they were happy to
see him after leaving the government seat
for Abuja, where he is now a senator of the
federal republic.
