IGP Solomon Arase says police officers
guilty of human right violation will be
dismssed

As part of efforts to reduce the increasing
rate of human right violation by police
officers, Solomon Arase, the inspector
general of police has ordered the
punishment or dismissal of officers found
guilty.

News men reports that the IGP gave the
order while fielding questions from
journalists at the human right training
workshop for officers in Kaduna on
Wednesday, April 20.

Olufemi Adenaike, an assistant inspector
general of police in-charge of training and
development who represented the IGP said
the force would monitor activities of men
and officers to ensure strict adherence to
respect for human rights in the discharge of
their duties.

“We will go out there to see what is happening
because we cannot be spending much money
on their training and allowing them to
misbehave, we will try them. If they are found
guilty, they get punished, including dismissal.”
He described the promotion and protection
of human rights as significant for any
country that wants to ensure compliance to
international standards.

Meanwhile, more than 6000 police officers
have been deployed to maintain law and
order during elections in 18 local government
areas of Ondo state on Saturday, April 23.

The plans were announced by Hilda
Harrison, the police commissioner for the
state, during a security meeting in
Akure held ahead of the election.
