Fulani herdsmen invade another Benue state LGA

– The news comes as local farmers in
Benue state announce they will sue the
Fulani for N100 billion

Moor council ward in Kwande local
government area of Benue state has once
again been sacked by marauding Fulani
herdsmen.

This is despite efforts by the federal and
Benue state governments to end clashes
between herdsmen and farmers.
Armed clashes between the Fulani and local
farmers dating back to 2013 have left over
100 persons dead, scores sustaining varying
degrees of injuries and close to 8,000
displaced.

“Moor in Kwande local government area is
now an occupied territory. Herdsmen have
sacked the inhabitants from their ancestral
homes and taken over the council ward,” a
government source said.

“All the local government clinics, including 21
primary and secondary schools in the area,
have been completely destroyed. The
indigenes of the community are refugees in
other communities.”

Corroborating the story, the Executive
Secretary of the Benue State Emergency
Management Agency (SEMA) Mr Boniface
Otese, said the agency had been making
concerted efforts to avail the displaced
persons necessary relief materials.

Protests against Fulani attacks in Agatu and
other areas in Nigeria have grown in recent
months
When contacted, police spokesman Mr
Moses Yamu said police, military and other
sister security agencies are currently
working around the clock to ensure that
peace and normalcy return to every trouble
spot in the state.

The news of this latest outrage comes
shortly it was announced that farmers from
Gwer-West LGA of Benue state intend to sue
several Fulani herdsmen for damages worth
N100 billion.

It currently remains unknown whether
today’s latest invasion is related to the
lawsuit the Benue farmers are filing with
Makurdi High Court.

The Fulani herdsmen crisis is growing in its
scope and many Nigerians have voiced their
frustration at the roving gangs of herders
who have killed many local residents in
recent months.
