The central bank of Nigeria has chosen Abia State
as it’s headquarters for their entrepreneurship
programmes.
This revelation was made by Mr. Obinna Oriaku,
(the commissioner for finance, Abia State
Government) in a radio programme, ‘People and
Politics’ on Magic 102.9 FM this Friday.
The commissioner assured that this program will
accommodate entrepreneurs with good business
proposal and practical experience and maintained
that upon graduation, the participants will have the
ability to access loans from SMEDEN, Nigerian
poverty Reduction agency and added that each
State will have about two hundred participants at
every phase of the program.
Reacting to the issues of payment of salaries in
particular the local government staff, he promised
that the local government staff will be receiving
their pay pachks from next week. He stated that the
wage bill of the local government staff and that of
their primary school counterpart stood at about
N1.6billion hence the N1.3billion received by the
local government cannot service their payments at
this point and maintained that their payments will
be segmented. He assured that the having
concluded plans to pay the local government staff
this month, their primary school counterparts will
receive theirs next month. That however does not
mean inauspicious as the the improvement of fund
will accommodate both parties and thereby
reconcile their payment process.
He pleaded with the public to support the
government by way of paying their taxes adding
that during the old Imo State days, the then
government were able to generate enough
resources to run the State from the revenue
accrued from Ariaria international market as well
return a substantial amount to the center and
wonder why the reverse has been the case now.
He reiterated that except for flying revenues
generated from the likes of commercial motorists,
every other payment process has been automated
which is aimed at discouraging the embarrassment
of potential taxpayers by the influx of different
vendors who come disturbing taxpayers and
assured that whereas the payments has been
embedded in one subhead, the issues of multiple
taxation has been gotten rid of.
