Nigeria defeated fellow Africans, Mali, in the
final to clinch a record fifth U-17 World Cup.
It would be recalled that each of the players
were alleged to have been handed a meagre
sum of N20,000 each at their return to the
country.

Fresh reports from AfricanFootball.com
reveals that the government have finally
‘settled the boys’.
“Both players and officials have received their
outstanding monies now,” a top official told
AfricanFootball.com.

“Government approved the funds for the
competition, but the release was delayed. The
NFF had to borrow to ensure the Eaglets
featured at the tournament and it was only
when the funds were released that they got
their dues.”

It is estimated that each player received a
total of about $8,000.

Meanwhile, the Super Falcons are not happy
with the “stipends” they received after they
qualified for the Nations cup in Cameroun,
following their home victory over Senegal.
The female national team were handed
N10,000 (about $50) each after they
qualified for the 2016 Africa Women Cup of
Nations on Tuesday, April 12.

The defending champions defeated the
Teranga Lionesses of Senegal 2 – 0 in the
second leg, final round at the national
stadium, Abuja on and advanced 3 – 1 on
aggregates for Cameroun 2016, courtesy of
goals from Rita Chikwelu and Osarenoma
Igbinovia.

The financial reward was in contrast with
the Super Eagles that gets $4000 for a draw
and $5000 for a win. The men failed to
qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations for a
second straight year last month.
