AFN boasts ahead of Rio Olympics

– Olumide Bamiduro says Nigerian athletes
can win medals in athletics

– The Secretary General added that the
athletes are in good shape

– Nigeria is still looking for its first gold in
athletics in 20 years

Secretary General to the Athletics Federation
Nigeria (AFN) Olumide Bamiduro has said that
all athletes that will represent the country at
the Rio Olympics are in fine form.

The SG also hailed the pre-tournament
performances from Blessing Okagbare and
Chinwe Okoro.

“So far so good they have been doing well. For
example Chinwe Okoro who throws the Discus,
threw a distance of 50:28 meters which is a very
good one and that has placed her in the 9th
position in the world right now.

“All they need is more training, more effort,
more determination; such athlete will definitely
make the nation proud during the Olympics.

“We have a lot of them, we all know Blessing
Okagbare is doing well too and a host of
others,” he said.

The last time Nigeria bagged gold in athletics
at an Olympic event was Atlanta 96’ where
Chioma Ajunwa clinched gold in the long jump
event.
