$2.1bn arms deal scandal: Group calls on EFCC to probe GEJ

– The Campaign for Democracy called on
the EFCC to prosecute former president
Goodluck Jonathan over his alleged role in
the $2.1bn arms deal scandal

– The group stressed that the EFCC’s
excuse that it was still looking for evidence
that will link the ex-president with the scam
was unacceptable

– The group wondered why the anti-graft
agency continues to keep people in
detentions flouting court orders, while the
major culprit is allowed to move freely

– The CD alleged that President Buhari had
a personal agreement with Jonathan

The Campaign for Democracy alleged that
President Muhammadu Buhari has his
personal agreement with Goodluck Jonathan.

The Campaign for Democracy (CD) has
called on the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) to investigate and
prosecute former president Goodluck
Jonathan over his alleged role in the $2.1bn
arms deal scandal.

The news men reports that the group’s call was
contained in a statement made by its
national president, Ifeanyi Odili, on Sunday,
April 24.

According to the CD, the EFCC’s excuse that
it is still looking for evidence that will link
Jonathan with the scam is unacceptable.
“We (CD) want to assert that there are
avalanche of evidences that have linked the
former president to the criminal diversion of
public funds and genocide against Nigerians.

“There are enough witnesses by individuals
linking the former president to the $2.1 arms
scandal.

“It is not the duty of the CD to begin to
mention names of individuals who have
reportedly confessed to the EFCC that the
illegalities were based on the instructions
(though verbal) from the former president,”
the group stated.

The CD noted that in ordinary criminal cases,
“when a name of a person is mentioned as a
conspirator or a connivance, such a person
will be arrested or invited for interrogation.”

The group wondered why the anti-graft
agency continues to keep people in
detentions flouting court orders, while the
major culprit is allowed to move freely.

The CD further alleged that President
Muhammadu Buhari had an agreement with
Jonathan that he would not probe his
government if his predecessor relinquished
power in a free and fair presidential contest.
“We put it to Buhari that if the rumour was
something to go by, that was his personal
agreement with Jonathan when he had not
been declared the president of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria.

“But now that there are worrisome cases of
fraud, wicked diversion of public funds,
unwarranted killings by Boko Haram arising
from the corrupt practices by the Jonathan’s
government, he (Jonathan) should not only be
arrested and charged with breach of public
trust, criminal diversion of our commonwealth,
he should be tried for genocide in the
International Criminal Court,” the group
concluded.

Meanwhile, Azibaola Robert, the cousin of
the former president, has claimed that the
operatives of the EFCC are pressuring on
him to indict Jonathan.

Robert, who is currently in the custody of
the anti-graft agency, revealed that the anti-
graft told him in clear terms to ‘say
something to implicate’ Jonathan or rot in
prison.
